Join us on a guided walk through this enchanting city, starting from the picturesque embankment and culminating at the iconic St. James’s Cathedral. Along the way, we’ll discover lush gardens, vibrant squares, and the charming narrow streets that make Šibenik so unique.
- The Embankment (Riva). Our tour begins at the bustling embankment, also known as the Riva. As we stand by the azure waters of the Adriatic Sea, take in the panoramic views of Šibenik’s skyline. The waterfront promenade is a perfect introduction to the city’s charm, lined with cafes and restaurants where locals and visitors alike enjoy the serene coastal atmosphere.
- The Mediterranean Park. A short walk from the embankment brings us to the Mediterranean Park, also known as Perivoj Roberta Visianija. This lush oasis in the heart of the city offers a peaceful retreat with its beautiful landscaping, fragrant flowers, and shady trees. The park is named after the famous Croatian botanist Roberto de Visiani, and it showcases a variety of Mediterranean plants. Grand monument of King Peter Krešimir IV is in the park of Robert Visiani in Šibenik. Do you know why Šibenik is called ‘Krešimir’s town’? Šibenik was mentioned for the first time on Christmas in 1066. in a document issued by the King Petar Krešimir IV, therefore also called the ‘Krešimir’s town’.
- Poljana Square. Leaving the park, we head towards the vibrant Poljana Square, the main square of Šibenik. Poljana is a lively hub of activity, surrounded by important landmarks, shops, and cafes. Here, you’ll see a blend of old and new, as historical buildings stand alongside modern architecture.
- The Narrow Streets of the Old Town. Next, we venture into the labyrinthine narrow streets of Šibenik’s Old Town. These charming cobblestone alleys are lined with stone houses, hidden courtyards, and quaint shops. As we weave through the winding passages, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Each corner holds a piece of history, making this part of the tour a true journey through time.
- St. James’s Cathedral. Our tour culminates at the crown jewel of Šibenik, St. James’s Cathedral. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture, built entirely of stone without the use of mortar. Marvel at the intricately carved friezes of over 70 human faces on the exterior, believed to represent the citizens of Šibenik during the 15th century. Our guide will explain the cathedral’s construction, its historical significance, and its unique architectural features, leaving you in awe of this monumental achievement.
